SPRA, I don't see you on my timeline.

Who?
Who?
Student Public Relations Association (SPRA) at University of Johannesburg.
This is a great Non-profit organization that helps mainstream and extended Public Relations students at the University of Johannesburg to enhance academic, political, social or religious interests and to provide us with some work experience and other good stuff that a student such as me is only but delighted to learn about.

Now, in my Media Studies class, we discussed the importance of social media in interacting with your stakeholders. That’s where I have a bone to pick with SPRA. I hardly ever see them on my timeline. I mean sure they appear every now and then, with some relevant information but the poof! They’re gone again for another month or 2. This cannot be right, right?!

I seriously believe that SPRA needs to take the writing function of Public Relations more seriously, and start to integrate the new technologies available to us. Okay, enough with the negative stuff, let me get real and give some PR solutions and What Ifs according to a PR student (see what I did there? ;-): Firstly, I think that SPRA should appoint someone to solely focus on social media, this way they are always visible and they keep touching base with us members and we would not have to travel to the Office to get information.

Secondly, please stop relying on the bulk text messages for communication. I know that you are also students and you have other thing to do as well, but really… Try using emails or better yet this little thing that we’re all constantly on and updating our statuses, this little thing called Social Media. What if it works? Which it probably will, but think about it. Seriously!

Lotsa love!

  1. I agree, there should be better interaction with students because it is small things that can make a break an orgaisation and lack of communication is not really a good thing. Yes we understand that it is still a freshly founded assocoation but the communication can be improved.

  2. Yeah they really do need to appoint someone who will be in charge of the social media of the organization.

  3. I know right?! Many events have come and gone and we did not even know about them. It sorta defeats the purpose of the organisation.
